Song (2026)

Sóng is part of an ASEM DUO research project between researcher and artist Truong Minh Thy Nguyen (@thytruongminh) and Nguyen Khoi. This project is a joint research collaboration between HCMUFA (Ho Chi Minh City) and Erg (Brussels), funded by ARES.

It transcribes the rise of sea levels over the years (from 1993 to today) by continuously filling and emptying a transparent cube with water levels collected from public data. The automation of the system is ensured by an algorithm that describes the operations of different pumps, allowing the water level to fluctuate. Two water pumps will alternately fill or empty the cube within a given time frame (for example, one day). The cube contains a volumetric replica of the floor, walls, and interior of a Vietnamese house at a 1:1 scale.
